How To Play
Click "play the game" to be taken to the game screen. You will be shown three empty pillars and a pile of colorful tiles; select a tile and place it on a pillar. You must continue placing tiles until two suns are shown in the counters above the pillars, at which point the pillar will close and you must move on to the next one. The game is over when you either complete all three pillars, run out of tiles, or click the "end the game" button at the bottom of the screen.
Please note that in order to place a tile atop another, the two must share something in common -- either a color or the featured pets must match.
There is also a bonus game that can be played when your Tile Case is full or if you are the lucky recipient of an incredibly rare bonus game tile. Simply take your tiles to the Mysterious Stone Tile Tray and click the glittering Slushii button to get started. This game plays much like the normal Subeta Tiles game, except that the aim now is to not let your pillars fill up. Any pillar that has 3 more tiles on it than either of the others will become closed. The bonus game is potentially endless, and does not give a wildcard tile in the starting lineup, although these may turn up randomly as the game progresses. In the Bonus Game, matching pets by species rather than color awards more points, and using a wildcard tile awards fewer points. Be warned that you will lose one of tile of every species in your tile case when you redeem them for play, so make your bonus game count!
Strategy
Try to plan ahead while playing; when placing a tile, try to make sure that you've got at least one additional tile that can be played afterwards. This is particularly important while playing the bonus game! Additionally, save your wildcard tile(s) for a point in the game when you really need them (i.e., you are completely unable to place any other tiles.)
It is important to note that each of the pillars closes after twelve tiles have been placed on it, and the clock above each pillar counts the number of tiles on it. Therefore, it is possible to interpret the clock and the exact number of tiles you need to place on a pillar to close it.
To access a Bonus Game more quickly, you can visit the Tile Monger and trade some of your duplicate Stone Tiles with him for tiles you don't already have. However he will ask for four tiles and give you only one in return, so in the long run it is best to trade as few tiles as possible - duplicates will be saved and counted up towards your next bonus game.
The Clock
As previously stated, it is possible to read the clock above each pillar; it operates in a sort of base three system in which the numeral for one is a star, the numeral for two is a moon, and the numeral for three is a sun (zero is an empty space). To get the decimal representation of a number on the clock, you multiply the number in the threes place by three and add it to the ones place. For example, if you had a moon and a star, that would be two in the threes place and one in the ones place, or seven.
It should also be noted that the numeral system is somewhat irregular and it is possible to have a three in the ones place. Threes are not carried over until there is over three in the ones place, which is for aesthetic reasons (at the start of the game, zero is represented by an empty space, which could conceivably cause confusion about which place a number was in for "round" numbers).
Frequency
- Subeta Tiles can be played every two hours.
- The bonus game may be played whenever your Tile Case is full or you receive a bonus game tile as a reward from Subeta Tiles. The bonus game does not have to be played all in one sitting; you may leave and return to it at any time by clicking on the glittering Slushii button once more.
- Your can increase your rank once for every 40 Stone Tiles you collect.
